Gestational diabetes mellitus affects between 1-5% of all pregnancy. Identification of women with gestational diabetes mellitus is important because the disease carries a risk of increased neonatal morbidity.
To evaluate the efficacy of 50gm oral glucose screening and its relation with fetal outcome, we performed 50gm oral glucose tolerance test between 24 and 28 completed(menstrual) weeks of gestation in 545 women with no past history of diabetes.
100gm
oral glucose tolerance test was performed in 80 women of 121 women whose screening results was equal to or higher than 130mg/dl.
@ES The results was as follows :
@EN 1. The prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus is about 3%.
2. High value of 50gm glucose screening test was an additional risk factor for operative delivery and casarean section.
3. Very high value of 50gm glucose screening test was related with large baby and neonatal hypoglycemia.
50gm glucose screening test is very simple and chief method for the screening of gestational diabetes mellitus. We night be able to diagnose and manage them earlier than before.
